Compendium of Curiosities III Challenge 2

IMG_5739I have finally been able to create something for the second challenge over on Linda Ledbetter's Blog. This time the challenge was Distress Glitter found on page 56 of Tim’s book. The challenge is being sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique so if you need any supplies be sure to check the site out.

When I sat down to work on my project my first thought was to make a card but after the work began, I ended up with this 4 by 4 canvas. I began by cutting a seahorse out of grunge paper then coloring it with Peacock Feathers ink and distress glitter. While that dried, I stamped the sea anemone with Tea Dye randomly on the pp. Next I mixed Antique Linen and  Peeled Paint distress glitter together to resemble sand on the ocean bottom. Using Glossy Accents, I swirled it along the bottom of the paper and applied the glitter. I sponged Tea Dye ink around the outer edge of the square. For the final touches, I added netting, a strip of pp, Robin’s Nest dots (for bubble and the eye) and actual shells found in the ocean. Living in Daytona Beach, there is no shortage of shells Winking smile.

Here is the completed canvas: IMG_5731

If you like my little canvas, I would love to hear your comments.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

Remaining “class” cards

I spent the rest of the afternoon creating these three cards for my Mom and her friends. The first one actually has watercoloring on it. If you know me well, you know I don’t like this coloring medium. I am pleased with this image though. I used cold press paper which I think made a big difference.

The image and sentiment are by GinaK. I wanted it to have a summery feel. I layered the image with SU Pink Pirouhette and Regal Rose. Behind the patterned paper is Pesto coredinations.

The next card uses the shaving cream technique. I used Bashful Blue and Mellow Moss re-inkers for this. shaving crm for youThe sentiment is new from JustRite Designs. I used coordinating paper for the sentiment and popped each one up on foam strips.

The final card used the shaker kit from Impression Obsession. bfly shaker

The wild flower image is from Penny Black, the sentiment is from IO and the butterfly inside the shaker is from Memory Box. If you click on the picture it will enlarge and you can see that I lightly colored the wings and added some microfine glitter. Inside the shaker is Sweet Pea Flower soft with a hint of lavender.

I think the ladies will enjoy working on these, don’t you? Now to just cut out the kits!

I am back…with a card!

I know it has been almost a month since I posted. I had some family business to attend to but I hope to get back to blogging and making cards on a more regular schedule. On top of the family commitment, my laptop monitor died. I ended up purchasing a new one since it would have cost $200 just to get a new monitor. I am now working with Windows 7 and getting used to the little messages my computer keeps giving me. It took me two entire evenings to upload all my bookmarks and favorites. Luckily I was able to get my information off my old hard drive.

But on to the card. My Mom asked me to put a few cards together that her and her friends could come over and do. They are not advanced stampers (actually only my mom stamps) but I wanted to do more than just a one layer card. They are hoping to work on 4 and here is the first one.

pink just because

The image is by Hero Arts and the sentiment by Verve. I colored the image with my copics and added a bit of Platinum stickles in the centers. The embossed panel was done with my Cuttlebug and the Harlequin folder. I also used my SU scalloped border and MS butterfly punches. There are actually 7 layers on this card, but it really isn’t bulky to mail. Although the buttons might give the USPS heartburn going thru their scanners:)

I need to get working on the other cards for these gals. Check back later, you never know when there might be a new post!

Buttons, Brads and Monograms..Oh My!

Today’s cards are not for any challenge but instead for the local monthly swap and the make and take at Stamp and Deliver. I knew I wanted to use the easel layout for my card design and what better way to show off my new Justrite garden stamps! The new arrivals had just come into the store last week when I stopped in to get my materials for my demo card. The theme of the swap is to use buttons and/or brads.

100_1803

I began with a lovely shade of purple bazzill paper for the base. The patterned paper is from Basic Grey Two Scoops (pistachio almond). I stamped the flower on a scrap of white, colored it with my copics and cut it out. Here is a close up of the center. 100_1805

If you click on the picture, it will enlarge to see the detail. I did use some spica pens on the flowers, but sadly that didn’t show up in the picture angle. I sponged Lavender Brilliance ink on the smaller background circle. It didn’t look that attractive when it was white. A deeper shade of Bazzill Bling or shimmer was used for the scalloped circle. I tried to pick up the darkest shade used on the flower. After taking a look at the purple brads I have it seemed that I would not have enough to complete the four cards I need for the swap with the square brads. What to do? Stick a butterfly on one corner! You know I love butterflies :) For the inside of the card, I chose the lighter shade of green from the paper and luckily I had 4 pieces in my green scrap ziplock baggie. YES, something was going right. The two buttons were added in the middle to help hold the easel upright when it is opened.

100_1807 This is going to be the card that I will demo at the Make and Takes. The theme is black and white next month. I think that makes an elegant monogram card. I am actually using creme and black which is totally elegant. The stamped bottom border is by Great Impressions. The center is from Justrite designer frames. The alphabet inside is Special Occasions font. I cut out a Labels 5 out of black for the bottom layer. This is popped up on foam squares. The ribbon is a double satin for the length and sheer black for the bow. I used my Bow Easy so it would look fabulous. I suck at tying bows without that thing now.

100_1808Here is my alternate card that I will display. The monogram was made with the Monogram stamper. I used a Cuttlebug border from the Organic Flourish set for the top. I added black rhinestones to highlight the swirls. For the bottom piece, I cut a piece of black cardstock with my SU eyelet border punch. Really a simple quick card to put together.

I hope you have a fabulous week coming up! Stop by again and hopefully I will have another card to show you.

August Make and Takes

Yesterday was M&T day at Stamp and Deliver. I was demoing how to double emboss using the Cuttlebug. I first saw this shown at Stampfest and fell in love with the technique. For the card below, I used Coredinations cardstock which really shows off the embossing technique. I ran the red panel through the CB using the swiss dots folder. I then ran the same panel through the CB using Stylized flowers.

I took a sanding block and lightly touched the cardstock where I wanted the inner color to show. I layered the red panel onto a metallic silver panel then to black cardstock. Sheer silver and red ribbon were layered to the front. The tag was stamped with black and sponged with Rhubarb stalk Memento ink. I threaded the tag through a black button and added rhinestones as the finishing touch.

As a second card, I used the same two embossing folders, but on  white cardstock. I took metallic paste and rubbed the embossed image to color it in. This panel was layered to copper metallic cardstock and onto a white card base. Two different ribbons were wrapped on the card and a bow was added.

Here are two of the other cards that we demoed yesterday. I still have one more card to finish.

100_1457 100_1458

The card on the left used two new stamps by Great Impressions. It may be hard to see in the photo, but I did take a glue pen and added glitter to the dragonfly’s wings. The card on the left used a stamp by Magenta. To begin, I sponged Broken China and Peeled Paint distress inks around the image. Colored pencils were used to color it in. I ran my clear Atyou spica pen on the butterfly and flowers for shimmer. A strip of pp was laid down and the image glued on top. I added a couple vellum butterfly stickers by The Paper Studio.

Being that it is still summer, the snow birds have not returned so it was not a large crowd and no one felt rushed to make their cards. They had time to chat and catch up with friends they may only see once a month. Stamping is a very social event :)

Flourishes Stampers Dream Weekend

I recently attended the first ever Stampers Dream Weekend at Flourishes studio in Pensacola, FL. I drove over with one of my best stamping buddies Char. We had a fun filled weekend and learned a few new techniques from Stamping greats like Faith aka Markies Mom and Becca aka Amazing Paper Grace . Jan Marie from Flourishes also taught a class. These are just a few of the cards that we created. Jan Marie spoiled us with a delightful lunch on Saturday and a traditional Mardi Gras dinner on Sunday night. On Monday we attend a Copic certification class with Marianne Walker. Now to just keep practicing with them.

A favorite card

Here is a card I made almost two years ago, but it is a favorite and sits on a shelf near my craft table. I made it during a class at my LSS - Stamp and Deliver. There are three layers to the butterfly and lots of glitter. If you aren't a fan of cutting out images, this is not for you :)
